Kabwe Warriors chairman Hayden Dingwall says the club is losing revenue in ticket sales because many supporters are unwilling to pay to watch matches.
Dingwall said that despite the stadium being filled to capacity during a number of home matches this season, a lot of supporters find themselves entering the stadium for free.
Speaking at a Kabwe Press Club Public Discussion held at Kabwe Lodge this evening, the Kabwe Warriors boss said supporters who at times given the opportunity to man the gates, end up pocketing the funds to the detriment of the Club.
“Our main sponsor Zambia Railways have been supportive of this team but our aim is to see Kabwe Warriors become self sufficient in future.
“Unfortunately, we have not been doing so well in gate takings because supporters don’t want to pay or they have been dishonest when given the chance to man the gates,” Dingwall said.
He called on supporters to engage the executive members to push the club forward.
“Big clubs like Zesco United, Nkana, Zanaco and now Lusaka Dynamos are delivering results because they have a stable revenue base.
“For Kabwe Warriors, our revenue base lies with the supporters and if they come on board and pay membership, it can make a huge difference,” he added.
And a Kabwe Warriors supporter Pascale Chawelwa who spoke at the same event challenged the club executive to maintain high standard of transparency.
Chawelwa said supporters are reluctant to pay membership because the Kabwe Warriors Executive board withhold financial statements from the public.
“We recently held a fundraising membership drive but it’s now a month, we don’t know how much was raised,” Chawelwa charged.
In response, Club Manager Keith Mwanabaleya assured supporters that the club executive will be publishing the revenue generate during home games to the press to help curb fraud.
“We are very open to suggestions from you our supporters. Bring those brilliant ideas to us. Don’t wait for us to leave office, the time to speak out is now,” he said.
