Moroccans Wydad Casablanca defeated Ivorians ASEC Mimosas 5-2 on Friday night in their Group A opener at the African champions league.
At Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Ismael Haddad give Wydad an early lead at the 16th minute, but a shot from outside the box by Wonlo Coulibaly in the 44th minute equalized for ASEC Mimosas.
In the second half, the Moroccan team was much more efficient and were able to convert four of their clear chances to goals in the 47th, 56th, 69th and 80th minutes through Michael Babatunde, Zouheir El Moutaraji, Walid Kerty and Badi Aouk.
The Ivorians scored their second goal Salif Bagate at the 85th minute.
After this win, the 2017 Champions Wydad Casablanca moved to the first spot with Nigerians Lobi Stars with three points followed by South Africans Mamelodi Sundowns and Ivorians ASEC Mimosas.
Earlier on Friday, Lobi Stars won Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1.
