Wydad Casablanca became the third team to book their place in the knockout stages of the 2019-20 Total CAF Champions League after defeating USM Alger 3-1 in Casablanca on Friday evening, in a game that marked head coach Sebastien Desabre’s return to the club.
Walid El Karti, Badie Aouk and Kazadi Kasengu scored first-half goals for the hosts at Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca as they join Group C rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in punching their quarter-final ticket.
Mohamed Meftah scored a mere consolation for the Algerian visitors, while Kasengu’s goal was his seventh in just six games for Wydad.
Elsewhere, TP Mazembe held fellow five-time winners Zamalek to a 0-0 stalemate at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.
The Ravens have already booked their place in the quarter-finals and remain in pole position to advance as Group A winners following an impressive result in the Egyptian capital.
