Wydad Casablanca used home ground advantage to defeat Zesco United 2-0 in a CAF Champions League match in Rabat and take control of Group A with 6 points.
Zesco United fell behind as early as the 11th minute when midfielder Walid El Karti headed home punishing some school boy defending.
Zega who knocked the ball around comfortably in some parts of the first half were looking suspect on set pieces as the home side continued to show enormous threat from aerial balls.
John Toshack’s men went into the break leading 1-0 with Lwandamina clearly not impressed with his team’s first half display.
Zesco came from the break hoping to equalize but the home side kept pushing and were eventually rewarded when David Owino put the ball in his own net to give Wydad Casablanca a 2 nil lead in the 49th minute.
Lwandamina brought in Kenyan striker Jackson Were in place of Jackson Mwanza after 69 minutes but he could not make an impact.
The best chance for Zesco fell to Mwape Mwelwa who couldn’t put the ball in the net with only the keeper to beat.
Wydad held on for a vital win that sees them seal two wins from their opening two games.
