Wydad Casablanca will face Esperance de Tunis in the final of this season’s Caf Champions League after holding Mamelodi Sundowns to a 0-0 draw at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday afternoon.
The Moroccan’s beat Sundowns 2-1 in the reverse fixture before denying the Brazilians what would’ve been a decisive goal, to set up a clash against the defending champions in this season’s showpiece.
Following an opening half that failed to conjure any real scoring opportunities for either side, the game finally sparked into life after the break.
Thapelo Morena directed a tame effort straight at Ahmed Tagnaouti in the 50th minute before Ricardo Nascimento cannoned his header attempt off the crossbar five minutes later.
This duly sent Wydad into their shell with the visitors happy to sit back and defend their narrow lead in numbers.
Sundowns turned the screw in the closing stages as tempers started to boil over, but try as they might, Wydad’s defence were not about to give an inch.
In the end, the Brazilians failed in their attempts to find the match winner and duly crashed out of this season’s tournament.
