Yanga SC of Tanzania and Ghana’s Medeama SC remain winless in group “A” of the CAF Confederations Cup after playing to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
In their previous two outings, Medeama lost once and drew another while Yanga lost twice.
The hunger for the first group win was more evident on Yanga side who pressed high early and were to be gifted in the third minute when Thabani Kamusoko fed Donald Ngoma with a lovely cut back for the opener, which the Zimbabwe international delivered with a fine strike.
The goal seemed to awaken the Tarkwa minners who coiled out like a rattled snake.
It took them less than a quarter an hour to deliver the equalizer which Benard Ofori drilled home in the 17th minute in a spectacular fashion with a back heal off a corner kick effort.
The match was tied at 1-1 at the interval. And on resumption, Yanga did more of the attacking as the visitors repulsed them and occasionally hit them on the counter.
Ngoma ramained their chief tormentor in the half; his bicycle kick inside the danger area at the hour mark was parried over by keeper Daniel Agyei.
Minutes later, Agyei was again called to action by Amissi Tambwe’s stinging shot, which he again tipped over to safety.
The Coach Prince Owusu’s charges best chance of the stanza landed Abbas Mohamed’s way in the 93rd minute and he should have silenced the home crowd, but with the net begging, his aim at the far right corner was horribly wide as the match ended 1-1.
Coach Hans Van De Pluijm and his troops head to West Ghana for the reverse tie in a fortnight’s time.
Yanga remains rock bottom in the group with one point, while Medeama are third on two points.
Group leaders TP Mazembe on six points will travel to second placed MO Bejaia on four points on Sunday.
