Yanga SC defeated bitter rivals Simba SC 2-1 in the Derby Community Shield game to mark the opening of the NBC Premier League in Tanzania at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Saturday.
Pape Sakho gave Simba SC the lead in the 16th minute scoring from a cross ball that was hit by Clatous Chama.
After that goal, Yanga regrouped and launched an attack to get back on level terms. They were soon rewarded as Fiston Mayele equalized for Yanga in the 49th minute after receiving a pass from Stephen Aziz.
Mayele scored his second of the day to give Yanga the lead in the 80th minute with a strong left foot shot outside the 18 after outmaneuvering Simba’s defenders.
Yanga held on to claim the first piece of silverware for the new season.
