Tanzania Premier League table leaders, Young Africans FC have vowed to make home advantage count when they face Etoile Du Sahel in the first leg of the second round in the CAF Confederations Cup on Saturday.
“We know that North African team are very experienced in these tournaments, but we must make sure we win the home game,” assistant coach Boniface Mkwasa said in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
Mkwasa said although the Tunisian side will go into the match as favourites, he hopes that his players can show the good form that they have showed in the League matches. Last week they humbled Coastal Union FC 8-0 before picking another 3-1 win over Mbeya City last weekend.
To reach the last 16, the Tanzanian giants handled by Danish Coach Hans van Pluijm ejected Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum 5-2 on goal aggregate. The Tunisian side eliminated Angola’s Benfica Luanda 2-1 on aggregate.
“The team has been working so hard, but we are also getting lots of support from our fans because they have been motivating us to win matches,” added the assistant coach.
Young Africans are the only team still in contention for a place in the Group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup from the Cecafa region. Sudan’s Al Hilal and El Merreikh are also in the last 16 of the CAF Champions League.
