Young Africans (Yanga) on Sunday made light of their work in the CAF Confederation Cup after recording a 2-0 away victory against Rivers of Nigeria.
In a match that was played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Yanga scored all two goals through striker Fiston Mayele in the second half.
Mayele scored the first goal in the 74th minute after receiving a through pass from the team’s captain, Bakari Mwamnyeto. Mwamnyeto was again on hand to create the second goal for Mayele in the 81st minute.
The results mean Yanga will only require a draw in Dar es Salaam to qualify for the semifinals of the competition. Yanga will host Rivers United on April 30 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium from 7pm.
Should Yanga eliminate Rivers United, they will face the winner between Association Sportive des Forces Armées Royales (AS FAR) and Union Sportive de la Médina d’Alger (USM Alger).
Other teams in the competition are US Monastir of Tunisia, who played Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast, and Pyramids of Egypt, who faced Marumo Gallants of South Africa.
According to the fixtures, semifinal matches have been scheduled to take place on May 14 for the first leg matches, and second leg matches have been scheduled to take place on May 20 and 21, while the final match will be held on May 28, for the first leg match and June 3, for the return leg match, respectively.
