Etoile du Sahel booked their place in the play-offs of the Confederation Cup after sealing a 2-1 aggregate win over Young Africans in the round of 16 of Africa’s second-tier clubs competition.
Following their 1-1 draw in Dar Es Salaam in the first leg a fortnight ago, the Tunisians enjoyed a 1-0 victory over the Tanzanians in Sousse on Saturday evening.
Down to 10-man for the entire second half after Cameroonian midfielder Franck Kom received his marching orders just before the break, the locals, however, managed to hold onto their narrow lead after taking the lead in the 25th minute through defender Ammar Jemal.
Etoile striker Youssef Mouihbi came close to putting the locals ahead after twenty minutes of play, with a shot just wide of the woodwork.
But Ammar Jemal was on target five minutes later from a Franck Kom’s corner kick to give the lead to the Tunisians.
The Cameroon international was sent off in the 43rd minute after being handed a second yellow card, to leave his side down to ten men for the rest of the encounter.
However, Etoile were able to preserve their narrow advantage until the final whistle to extend their continental journey.
