By Ruth Mpenzi,
The Tanzania Vodacome champions, Yanga caused a major upset when they fought gallantly to upset favourites l Ahly of Egypt 1-0 in an exciting Caf Champions league match played on Saturday at the National stadium in Dar Es Salaam.
The Egyptians came to the game as strong favorites and a record to match as both side fought in the ding dong battle but defender Nadir “Cannavaro”Haroub inflicted pain in the former champions with an 82nd minute goal as Yanga played with passion and showed composure despite the odds against them.
With everyone expecting the Egyptian giants to run havoc, it was the home team’s skipper Nadir Haroub who netted the crucial goal in the 82rd minute.
It was a sweet victory for Yanga against Al Ahly who recently won the African Super Cup as the Egptians were forced to back peddle with the likes of Emmanuel Okwi,Hamisi Kiiza causing havoc upfront .
The win for Yanga sets up a mouth watering second leg to be played in Cairo next weekend as both sides will be looking to consolidate their position.
