The Tanzania Vodacom Premier League took a break paving way for the Azam Sports Federation Cup.
The tournament which was re intoduced by Tanzania Football Federation entered Round three with a total of six matches played over the weekends of saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th.
Earlier last week Premier league side Majimaji was shocked at their backyard in Songea Fwhen they got eliminated from the same round by little known JKT Mlale who beat them 1-2.
Second tier teams however were a pale shadow of the top teams losing by huge margins
On Saturday Dar es Salaam giants Simba walloped second tier side Burkinafaso 0-3 away in Morogoro’s Jamhuri Stadium with Vodacom league side Ndanda FC crushing Mishikamano 5-0 in another one sided encounter at the Nagwanda Sijaona Mtwara.
The same day saw Mwanza host a derby with Pamba FC losing 1-4 to Toto Africans in a match played at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.Toto Africans goals were scored by Miraji who got his name twice in the score sheet,Wazir and Christopher with Pamba’s consolation being netted by Sungura.
Today at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam,league Defending Champions Yanga have outclassed Friends Rangers 3-0 with Simon Msuva scoring a double in the 5th and 20th minutes of first half.Matheo Antony connected a Telele cross for the third.The match saw want away Rwandese captain Haruna Niyonzima feature for Yanga.
In Shinyanga’s Kambarage Stadium where another derby ensued,bitter rivals Stand United and Mwadui once again clashed with Mwadui getting the better of Stand for the second time this season to progress.Tanzania prisons had to wait for the decisive spot kicks to edge Njombe Mji 5-3 after a goalless draw in regulation time in a match played at the Amani Njombe stadium.
On Monday action resumes with three matches on offer,Kagera Sugar will travel to Tabora to have a date with Rhino Rangers at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi stadium.Panone FC will host Madini FC at the Ushirika grounds in Moshi while African Lyon will host Azam at the Karume Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
On Tuesday Mtibwa Sugar will welcome Abajalo FC at the Jamhuri Stadum while Lipuli ill battle JKT Ruvu at Wambi Grounds in Mafinga.Mkwakwani will host a derby between African Sports against Coastal Union.
The same day at the Nyankumbi Stadium in Geita,Geita Gold will host Mgambo shooting while on thursday only one match will be played where Singida United will play against Mvuvuma at the Namfua stadium.
The last match in the third round has however been pushed to February 10th pitting Wenda FC against Mbeya City at the Sokoine stadium.
The Federation Cup is sponsored by Azam Sports Media and it is beleived the winner may represent the country in the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup.
