Former Orland Pirates attacking midfielder Yasser Mugerwa is on the verge of joining St.George FC in the Ethiopian Premier League. The 22-year old Ugandan international mutually parted ways with the Soweto giants mid this year in search of more play-time.

“The deal will be over and done with by the end of this week. We have agreed terms. St. George is a big club and I wouldn’t want to view the move as a step down in my career, I want to get back to my best and I can only do so if I play regularly.” The former URA and SC Victoria University player confidently told Soka25east.com, after Uganda Cranes made it to Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Yasser is angling to return to Cranes fold after missing the decisive match against Comoros on Sunday at Namboole Stadium – his target is to make it to the continental showpiece in Gabon next year.

The soft spoken attacker was spotted by the Bucaneers during URA’s CAF Confederations Cup 2015 campaign where the team lost 4-3 on aggregate to the South Africans – he was subsequently handed a 3-year deal but found little play time during his stay.

At Kidus Giorgis he will join fellow countryman and goalkeeper Robert Odonkara. The team is building for a solid stab at the CAF Champions League where they will represent Ethiopia – they are believed to be also in talks with Walia Ibex international Gataneh Kebede for a move from another South African Side Amatuks.
