Egyptian Premier League club Zamalek SC have announced the appointment of Christian Gross as their new head coach.
Gross, a former Tottenham Hotspur and Basel coach, was on the verge of taking charge of Zamalek in April, but then in May the deal appeared to collapse.
He has now penned a one-year contract with the Giza side, replacing caretaker Khaled Galal.
“I want to thank Zamalek board to give me the chance to coaching this team,” said the 63-year-old Swiss coach, who has spent the last four years at Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.
The team will travel to Germany this month to prepare for next season.
“I will do my best to make the fans proud”
Gross vowed to the club’s fans that he will work hard to make them happy in the upcoming period, with his main aim being collecting titles.
“I want the players to fight and believe in themselves and I promise I will do my best to make the fans proud.”
Last season, the Giza side, who are now onto their 25th coach in the last four years, finished fourth in the Egyptian Premier League, 27 points behind champions Al Ahly.
After losing on aggregate to Ethiopian side Welayta Dicha, Zamalek failed to reach the group phase of the Caf Confederation Cup.
