Zamalek are considering quiting the Egyptian Premier League after the Egyptian FA handed sanctions to their players and officials in the wake of the Egyptian Super Cup clash with Al Ahly last Thursday.
Zamalek beat Al Ahly on penalties to win the Super Cup but the game was marred by ugly scenes.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced in a statement over the weekend that it had taken action against the parties involved.
Zamalek President Mortada Mansour who is among those sanctioned by the EFA said he will not hesitate to pull his team out of any further domestic action: “Zamalek’s board will hold an urgent meeting and our decision will be not to complete the league competition under the supervision of this interim board,” he told Zamalek’s TV Channel early on Sunday.
Ahly players Mahmoud Kahraba, Zamalek starlet Emam Ashour and official Ahmed Zaher have all been suspended until the end of the season with a fine of EGP 100,000 each.
Zamalek winger Mahmoud Shikabala has been suspended for eight games with a fine of EGP 100,000, Zamalek player Abdalla Gomaa has been suspended for three games with a fine of EGP 50,000.
Al Ahly’s Yasser Ibrahim and Junior Ajayi have equally been suspended for two games with a fine of EGP 50,000 each, alongside fining Ahly and Zamalek clubs EGP 100,000.
Zamalek president Mortada Mansour has also been suspended from participating in any football activities for three games alongside with a fine of EGP 200,000.
The lasted pronouncement by Mansour has literally put further doubts on where the Derby will go on
