The Zambia Senior Women’s National Team will take part in the Turkish Women’s Cup to be held from 13-22 February 2023 in the resort town of Alanya, Turkey.
The Four-Team tournament has attracted participation from hosts Turkey, Slovenia, Uzbekistan and the Copper Queens who will be using the contest to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in July.
At the Turkish Women’s Cup, Zambia will open their campaign against the hosts Turkey on 15 February at the Miracle Sport Complex before entertaining Slovenia three days later at the same venue.
The tournament is being played on a round-robin basis and the Copper Queens will play their third and final match against Uzbekistan on 21 February at the Miracle Sports Complex.
Coach Bruce Mwape is expected to name a strong squad that comprises local and foreign-based players for the tournament.
FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala says the association had prioritized preparations for teams participating in international tournaments.
“We have organized high level preparations for our teams that are preparing for the AFCON (U20) and World Cup (Copper Queens) to ensure that they are ready to fly our flag high,” says Kashala.
“We will do the same for the under-17 boys that qualified for the AFCON and also the Chipolopolo ahead of their AFCON qualifiers.”
The Copper Queens will be participating at their first FIFA Women’s World Cup and have been drawn in Group C alongside Costa Rica, Spain and Japan.
