Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevich believes that the next week’s friendly with Zambia is a basis for a strong future in international football.
Micho who addressed the media at FUFA house today morning revealed that he called up senior players with experience in a bid to help the Cranes post good results against the former African champions.
‘CAF used the performance of national teams in the past three years to decide on the teams that would not go through qualifiers of the CAN 2015. So, I need a strong team for this friendly’ said Micho.
The Serbian also said the friendly will help Cranes prepare for the forthcoming international fixtures due this year.
‘The CAN 2015 qualifiers will kick off soon and we must be ready. I need to try out every player’ added Micho who said that he will name his final 18 man squad at the weekend for the trip to Ndola.
He also clarified why he left out most of the players who were in South Africa for the CHAN finals.
‘The tournament was for the local based players but we have managed to select some of them for the friendly against Zambia’ said Micho.
He also said that CECAFA and CHAN are tournaments designed for developmental purposes but also an opportunity for players like Ivan Ntege, Brian Majwega and Nicholas Wadada get selected for senior team duty.
