Zambian Super League reigning champions Zesco United is arm stretch away from another crown on the bounce. Arguably the team of the season, there is no stopping for “Team ya Ziko” as they keep churning out impressive results week in week out.
Backed by their talisman who is also “Chipolopolo’s” marksman Winston Kalengo, the coach George Lwandamina charges have been in a class of their own, banging in the highest number of goals at 44 while conceding just 18 in 25 fixtures. Kalengo leads the hunt for the golden boot award with 15 goals, followed by Adamson Mulawo of Green Eagles who has netted 9 times.
The hard fought 2-1 win over Nchanga Rangers over the weekend was another turning point for Zesco in their quest for the 2015 title on a day the chasing pack lead by Zanaco and Power Dynamos settled for draws. Lazarus Kambole and Kalengo goals were enough to secure the priceless points and push their points tally to 59, 9 points clear of second placed Zanaco.
With just five fixtures left to the conclusion of the 2015 season, Zesco only needs six points or two wins to lock out the rest from the title race and secure their crown for the second time on the trot.
Zesco United Next League Fixtures:
Green Eagles (Away)
Power Dynamos (Home)
Forest Rangers (Away)
Zanaco (Home)
Lusaka Dynamos (Away)
For Kenyan international David “Calabar” Odhiambo, it could be a wonderful achievement on his first season away from home – he joined Zesco having won Kenyan Premier League twice in a row and by all standards he has been a standout in Zesco’s defense even scoring crucial goals for his side when it matters most.
Ceteris paribus, Zesco will be crowned the 2015 Zambian Super League Champions.
