Zesco United stayed on course for a league and cup double on Sunday after beating Kabwe Warriors 2-0 in a 2015 Barclays Cup quarterfinal match at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
The defending Barclays Cup champions scored both their goals in the first half against Division 1 South side Warriors who are currently fighting to return to the Super League following their demotion at the end of the 2013.
Goals by midfielder Mwape Mwelwa and striker Jackson Mwanza sent Zesco through to the semifinals to be played on October 17.
Mwelwa put Zesco ahead in the 13th minute when the fired in a rebound after Warriors goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga parried the ball into his path.
Four minutes later, Mwanza added the final goal with a shot to end Warriors interest in the competition.
Zesco, who currently enjoy an eight-point lead at the summit of the Super League table with seven games for them left to play, won the league and Barclays Cup in the 2014 season.
George Lwandamina’s side is also chasing an unprecedented fifth Barclays Cup title since the tournament was launched in 2007.
Meanwhile, Zesco now complete the four teams through to the penultimate stage of Zambia’s only lucrative cup competition.
They join Nkwazi and Green Buffaloes who beat Mufulira Wanderers and Power Dynamos on post-match penalties respectively in a doubleheader on Saturday at the same venue.
Zanaco too are through after a 3-0 win in the lunchtime kickoff at Nkoloma on Sunday.
