The task to lead the CHAN squad to Victory in Rwanda has been given to 2012 AFCON winning Captain Christopher Katongo.Katongo and his Fellow 2012 AFCON winning team mate Isaac Chansa were late Additions to the Squad.
Christopher Katongo was surprised by his selection as Captain cause he did not expect to be captain of the CHAN squad.
“I was surprised when the captain Jacob Banda handed over the captaincy. Even the coaches were not aware, it came as a surprise to them too.” Katongo said in an interview this morning at independence stadium .
A highly spirited Chipolopolo CHAN squad converged today at Independence stadium for their second day training session.Zambia are preparing for the Rwanda 2016 Championships which will kick off on January 16, 2016. Chipolopolo are in the same group with Zimbabwe, Uganda and Mali.
Winston Kalengo and Toaster Nsabata have been given temporary leave of absence from
the residential training camp in Lusaka.
Kalengo has been granted permission by coach George Lwandamina to attend to
personal issues while Nsabata has been excused from camp on account of being ill. Both players are expected to return to camp
soon.
Festus Mbewe, Benedict Chepeshi, Paul Katema and Danny Munyao will not be joining the squad as they have to undergo
military training with the Zambia Airforce, the sponsors of Red Arrows Football Club.
Conlyde Luchanga did not participate in Tuesday’s training sessions due to an ailment.
Green Eagles players Adamson Mulao and Mwila Phiri are expected to join camp on Wednesday (today).
