The Football season in Zambia closed it’s curtains some weeks ago but there is a small matter of awarding deserving Players and Officials.All roads today lead to Radison Blue Hotel as FAZ awards take center stage.
The categories up for grabs are Best young player,player of the year,Most disciplined player,Best Referee ,Best assistant referee and Coach of the year with the Football Association of Zambia President Kalusha Bwalya scheduled to give two meritorious awards.
The Topscorer and the player with most goals in the league in the last 10 years among the active players (100+) Mr Winston Kalengo has been nominated for two other awards most Disciplined and Player of the year and has a very good chance of winning both if them.In the player of the year category he is battling it out with a team mate ,The genius and midfield Maestro Cleotus Chota Chama and Zanaco’s Goal Poacher Moses Phiri.Festus Mbewe and Jacob Banda are the other Nominees in the most Disciplined category.
Lusaka Dynamos’ Young sensational Striker Conlyde ”Golden Boy” Luchanga who was the teams main striker last season and scored more than 8 goals in his debut season has been nominated for young player of the year.Luchanga will have to shield off competition from fellow Chipolopolo youngsters Benedict Chepeshi of Red Arrows and Boyd Mkandawire of Napsa stars.
Chipolopolo interim Coach Chicken George Lwandamina is nominated for coach of the year along side the Barclays cup finalists in Elijah Chikwanda of Nkwazi and Bilton Musonda of Green Buffaloes.
