The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has once again placed itself under heavy microscopic examination for failing to announce the prospective candidate to take over from George Lwandamina as the next Chipolopolo coach
FAZ Spokesperson Nkweto Tembwe announced on Wednesday 12 August 2015 that the new Chipolopolo coach has been identified and will be unveiled as soon as Government gives the goal ahead but the football house mouthpiece is keeping the identity of the new trainer under the bed.
Sports Minister Vincent Mwale has also echoed FAZ’s statement claiming an expatriate coach has been engaged but he too could not reveal the dentity of this mystery coach.
Football fans across Zambia and the media are probably baffled that the Zambian FA have employed a different system of selecting the right candidate for the National Team job. Usually the Football Association will advertize for candidates to apply for the position of Head Coach and publicize the names of the candidates in the media.
But in this scenario, the men from Football house have been very secretive in their dealings of appointing the man to take over the highest coaching job in the nation. This has stirred concern as such a position is a huge responsibility and the coach has to be scrutinized not only by FAZ but the soccer fans too.
Football fans do not just go to games to fill up stadiums. They watch the games as stakeholders and as investors they need to be assured that their taxpayers money is being put to good use. This meaning that the fans need to know who they are paying to drill the National Team.
In a nutshell, the soccer fans are employers of the new coach and as such they have the right to know who they are employing. With the Chipolopolo’s next assignment in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya slated for September 6 in Nairobi, you could almost feel the aura of hide and seek at play in Zambian football at present.
