Zanaco midfielder Rodrick Kabwe says the Zambian Premier League has improved this season.
Kabwe tells Soka25east.com in an exclusive Question and Answer session that the Local League is growing and is now attracting huge crowds during match days. We had a chat with the Zanaco man and this was what he had to say.
Soka25east.com: How do you rate the Zambian Super League?
Kabwe: Very much improving. You could clearly see even the attendance in the stadiums during a league match has massively improved. For example the Kabwe Warriors vs Zanaco a week ago, one would think its an international match which is being played.
Soka25east.com: How did you start your football career?
Kabwe: I started playing football for fun in the streets of Chifubu, Ndola and sometimes at school until when my uncle Chuma Kalumba who was playing for Chifubu Bullets, took me and introduced me to the club. I then started training with them though I was scared at first because I didn’t have boots at that time.
Soka25east.com: What was your first favorite professional football moment?
Kabwe: My favorite moment was in the game when I was at (Forest Rangers). We played Roan United in Luanshya. It was my first start for the team as a young star and scored a hat trick in that game. It was my first favorite moment as a professional footballer.
Soka25east.com: What keeps you going as a footballer?
Kabwe: What keeps me going is nothing but the love of football itself and looking at were I have come from. I remember my family telling me, that I am just wasting my time (with football) instead of concentrating on school. I didn’t bring anything from it but only to come and eat nshima a lot when I come back. So this is what keeps me going because I can’t stop now and beside this is God’s talent and me not using it to the fullest means I am sinning against the owner (God).
Soka25east.com: Could you have played any other sport apart from football?
Kabwe: To be honest i didn’t see my self playing another sport because football was in me. I used to destroy my school shoes a lot all because of kicking stones on my way back from school.
Soka25east.com: Apart from football, what is it that you like to do in your spare time?
Kabwe: I like being at home resting, watching movies and spend sometime with my family for i don’t spend much time with them because of the nature of my work.
Soka25east.com: Any message to young and upcoming football players out there?
Kabwe: First of all they should put God first and know that He is the owner of the talent they have. Secondly they should be disciplined, focused, dedicated and willing to sacrifice for what they want to achieve with there talents.
Thirdly they should also be physically and mentally strong to face different challenge in football and have a never give up mind.
Soka25east.com: Roderick, thank you for finding time to speak to us.
Kabwe: No worries, you are welcome.
Soka25east.com would like to wish Roderick Kabwe all the best in his football career.
