Clashes between old foes Zambia and Zimbabwe are always contested with both teams having a score to settle.
The Southern African nemesis will this afternoon face off in 2015 African nation Championship(CHAN) Group D opener at Umganda Stadium in Rwanda.
Zambia will be out for revenge to the 1-0 on aggregate loss they suffered in the previous encounter during the 2014 African nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers where as Zimbabwe will be aiming to improve their head to head statistics.
The Chipolopolo boys have fought several battles with the Warriors since 1980,but the burning issue of supremacy remains unresolved.
In 51 encounters,Zambia have walked out as winners eighteen times and Zimbabwe claiming victory on eleven occasions with the rest ending in stalemates.
Calisto Pasuwa who was assistant to Ian Gorowa at the previous edition in South Africa will be aiming to build on his predecessor’s achievements of reaching the semifinals.He will be banking on the experience of Hardlife DZerekwi the only available member of the 2014 Squad.
Rodrick Mutuma and league top scorer Nox Mtizwa will be reliable sources for goals.
Gorge Lwandamina left no stone unturned by drafting 2012 BBC player of the year and AFCON winning skipper Christopher Katongo into the CHAN squad.Despite having a lackluster season with Green Buffaloes,the technical bench believes Katongo can fuel the Chipolopolo boys to it’s maiden CHAN triumph.
Zambia have missed the two previous editions,only qualified for the the inaugural in 2009.GoalKeeper Jacob Banda is the only available member of the 2009 Squad.
