Sensational Zanaco opened up a nine point lead at the summit of the FAZ Super Division table with a sweet 2-0 victory over title rivals Nkana in a week 7 fixture played at Heroes Stadium this afternoon.
Aubrey Funga and Fashion Sakala were on target in a thrilling encounter which Nkana needed to win to stay in touch with Zanaco.
Walter Bwalya was guilty of missed opportunities as Aba Red dominated play in the early exchanges of the game.
The teams seemed like heading into a stalemate at halftime but Aubrey Funga put Zanaco ahead in additional time beating goalkeeper Scott Ngokene with ease.
A welcome state of affairs for Zanaco coach Numba Mumamba and not so much for Agrey Chiyangi.
Nkana came back fighting in the second half looking for an equalizer but it was Zanaco who found the back of the net in the 65th minute through second half substitute Fashion Sakala.
Sakala latched onto a clinical Charles Zulu pass to net his 8th goal of the season and seal a comfortable 2 nil for the Bankers.
The win now takes Zanaco to 40 points nine points ahead of Nkana and Zesco United who play Red Arrows on Wednesday.
