Semi autonomous Zanzibar has been admitted as a full member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in today’s 39th Ordinary General Assembly in Addis Ababa.

The proposal by the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Mr. Jamal Malinzi was unanimously adopted by the 54 member associations present.

The move cements CAF’s position as the largest football confederation in the world.

Zanzibar clubs have previously played in the CAF’s club competitions but at the national team level, they competed jointly as Tanzania.

With the new status Zanzibar will be fully in charge of their national teams and will get direct fundings from CAF.
