The Confederation of African Football has accepted the request by the Tanzania football federation to have Zanzibar become a full member of CAF.
In a meeting held on 12th January 2017,CAF agreed to have the request as one oft its main agendas in their extra ordinary meeting in March 16th 2017 in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.

The isalnd is located in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometers (16–31 mi) off the coast of mainland Africa. Zanzibar had been a Sovereign State until its union with Tanganyika to form Tanzania in 1964. Zanzibar is however a semi autonomous state and has its own independent president, cabinet, parliament and jurisdiction.
it has however been participating in the CAF club compatriots but not the national team owing to their associate membership
If accepted,Zanzibar will participate in all the CAF competitions including the prestigious African Cup of nations ,the U20,U17,African women’s Nations Cup etc
The federation also will have a chance to vote in different issues affecting football in Africa.
The Tanzania football federation through their President Jamal Malinzi has congratulated Hon Nape Mnauye the minister of sports and Culture and his zanzibar counterpart Rashid Ali Juma for their role on the process
TFF also congratulates Zanzibar football Association President Ravia Idarus Faina and former TFF president Leodogar Chilla Tenga who is a CAF committee member for the exploits and assistance .
