Gor Mahia manager Jose Marcelo Ferreira has dedicated his coach of the month award to players.

The Brazilian, popularly known as Ze Maria scooped the award for the month of March in the Kenyan Premier for guiding his side to two wins in two outings.

K’Ogalo have so far played five matches – winning four and losing once – and have maintained the top spot.

“My players did it in those two games it’s not me, so I dedicate it to them for a job well done,” Ze Maria, an Olympics bronze medalists with the Samba Boys said after receiving the gong.

He edged four other coaches to land the trophy, which comes with a cash reward of Kshs 75,000. They include Posta Rangers’ Sammy Omollo, Paul Nkata (Bandari), Francis Kimanzi (Mathare United) and Bernard Mwalala (Nzoia United, who each managed four points in the month.

Ze Maria is calling for consistency in his team as he trails his eyes on the more trophies this season after bagging the season curtain raiser KPL Super Cup.

“We began the season by winning a trophy and we want to win the other remaining three.”

Gor beat rivals Tusker 1-0 to lift the trophy at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru last month. The two will lock horns over the weekend at the same venue as they renew rivalries in the league.

Their only league loss was served by Western Stima, who shocked them 2-1 in Kisumu this month.
