The simmering tension in Gor Mahia’s technical bench is bubbling. This morning (Sunday 28), at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Head Coach Jose Marcelo Ferreira decided he no longer wants to work with goalkeeping Coach, former Kenyan international Mathews Ottamax, and the Brazilliam demanded he should not travel to Kisumu.
K’Ogalo are enroute to Mumias via Kisumu where they will play Nzoia United in a league Cup fixture later today at Mumias Sports Complex.
“The Coach is picking fights with everyone. Since his family joined him here he has been arrogant and disrespectful and he doesn’t listen to anyone else apart from them,” The former Gor and AFC Leopards keeper said.
“He fired the bus driver and now me. I didn’t want to create tension on a match day so I decided to leave but I have informed the club’s management.” He added.
Gor is undergoing a rough patch as they seek to defend their league title four times on the bounce. The team has not mastered a win in five matches and are firing blanks. They are placed second behind Tusker who have opened seven points gap at the top of the log.
Ze Maria as Marcelo is nicknamed is a man under pressure to deliver, some of his game decisions have also come under close scrutiny lately, especially substitutions.
“Maybe because he is a Brazillin, he thinks we Kenyans we don’t know football. We have raised the issue of substituting Ernest Wendo but he doesn’t take it positively despite the negative effects the move has always had. Ottamax added.
The Coach is said to have also deployed his son as a physical trainer alongside Sandro Fantino, further fueling rifts in the technical bench.
