Zesco United coach George Lwandamina is happy that Jesse Were’s signing is paying dividends with five games played by the defending Super League champions.
Were scored four goals in Zesco’s 5-0 home win over bottom placed Mufulira Blackpool on Saturday to keep them firmly in the number two position just three days after netting a brace in a 2-0 away victory over Napsa Stars in Lusaka.
The Kenyan striker’s six goals over the last two games takes him into the top two charts after bringing his league tally to seven from five Super League matches played by Zesco.
Lwandamina insists that it was good that Were is delivering the goals but at the end of the day it all came down to team work.
“He is part of the team and that is his job (to score goals),” Lwandamina said.
“It is good to have a striker scoring four goals after just coming from scoring two goals, that is good for him.
“That is why he has been employed, it is to score goals. So if he can do that, then he is up to the challenge.”
Were joined Zesco this year on a two-year deal from Tusker. He now has nine competitive goals so far for Zesco after netting another two in the Caf Champions League.
