Zesco United finished second in the 2016 MTN FAZ Super League after they defeated Lumwana Radiants 2-0 in a rescheduled Week 18 match played at Lumwana Ground on Saturday.
Zesco who were champions in 2015 and reached the CAF Champions League semi final will now play in the CAF Cofederations cup.
After a goalless first half, it was Lazarus Kambole and Bernard Mapili who scored the goals which earned the 2015 league champions a spot in the 2017 Caf Confederation Cup.
They ended the season on 72 points from 34 matches in which they scored 56 goals while conceding 18 in the process.
Zesco United finished nine points adrift of champions Zanaco who were in action at Nkwazi where they won 4-0 to finish top of the league with a record 81 points from 34 matches in which they scored 71 goals while conceding 16.
Rodrick Kabwe and Aubrey Funga bagged a brace apiece for the champions.
Meanwhile, Nkana could only finish in third position with 70 points following their 1-0 victory at Forest Rangers. Walter Bwalya scored the only goal of the match to take his tally to 24 league goals, nine better than his closest rival Zesco United’s Jesse Were.
Elsewhere, already relegated Lusaka Dynamos won 2-1 at Green Eagles to record their ninth league win which took them to 15th position with 36 points. Luka Chamanga bagged a brace for the visitors while it was Greenwell Witika who scored the consolation goal for the hosts
