Posta Rangers coach Zedekiah Otieno feels that his team’s recent drop in performance is nothing more than a normal phase in a league competition and there should be no cause for alarm.
Otieno said he was not particularly concerned with the tame performances that his team, considered dark horses at the beginning of the season, has exhibited in recent matches.
“We started very strongly in the first half and because of that everyone expected that we would threaten the established order.
“As much as I would want that to happen, the reality is that very few teams can play at that level all year round. The league is a marathon. You win some times and you lose sometimes. That is normal in a game of football.
“That does not mean that we will just continue to drop points. There is need for us to regroup and fight back,” he said.
Rangers, promoted to the SportPesa Premier League this season, began life at the top level rather strongly.
Towards the end of the first leg, they were perched fourth on the log and looked very capable of challenging for the KPL trophy. In some quarters they were even whispered as potential champions.
But whether it is a drop in form, pressure, or just one of those things, Rangers have failed to win in their last five games and scored just one goal in all those fixtures, sliding to seventh position in the league table, 10 points behind table leaders Tusker.
Otieno said that he was not under any pressure, and asked club supporters to be patient as Rangers would certainly bounce back.
“We shall be back stronger, that is for sure. We have been playing without Timothy Otieno because he is injured and that has made us struggle a little with scoring. We, however, expect him back any time now and I am sure that we shall pick up well.
“What we need to work on right now is definitely our pace and transitions. In our last match we were playing with one more person but because of our poor speed and transition, we ended up drawing the game instead of killing it in the first half,” he said.
Rangers’ next fixture is a tough one against resurgent AFC Leopards on August 3 at Nyayo National Stadium.
