Coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno has returned to the Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mahia five years after departing unceremoniously, Soka25east.com can confirm.
Zico who was the Head Coach of “K’Ogalo” between 2010 and 2011 rejoins the club’s coaching rank as second assistant coach to Brazilian Jose Marcelo Ferreira aka Ze Maria.
He slots in the post left behind by Tom Ogweno who was dismissed early this month for alleged insubordination and sabotage.
Before leaving for Sony Sugar and later Posta Rangers, Zico, 48, championed the rebirth of Gor Mahia who was then emerging from years of obscurity in Kenyan football.
He however failed to deliver the league title despite coming close twice.
Missing the 2011 title marked the end of his stay at his childhood club, as pent up anger from fans contributed to his sacking.
Zico captained Gor Mahia as a player to the 1995 KPL glory and is regarded a legend within the club’s loyal support.
