Zimbabwe Warriors influential player Khama Billiat has suffered a knee injury ahead of the Warriors’ opening game of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign .
The midfielder missed training last Friday but had some light work-outs alone in the following day. He will miss today’s warm-up match against Tanzania.
In an interview with Sunday Mail, Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare, however, said Billiat could be back to full training in time before the Warriors’ first match of this year’s edition of the tournament against the hosts, Egypt.
“Khama has a slight problem with his knee and is being monitored by the team doctor,” said the Warriors manager.
“That is why he didn’t train with the rest of his teammates on Friday night and was also excused for the light session which the others had today (last night).
“He will not even feature in the practice match against Tanzania tomorrow (today), but we are getting reports that there is nothing to really worry about, in terms of the tournament itself, and an assessment will be made on Monday.
“What we are doing is just a precaution so that he gets into prime shape for the big match against Egypt and we are confident that Khama will be part of the team in that game.’’
Meanwhile, the Warriors’ game against Tanzania will be played behind a closed door. Kick-off is at 8 pm.
