FT Zesco United 1-0 Konkola Blades (51’ David Owino)
Champions Zesco United put Konkola Blades to the sword beating them by a solitary goal in a Zambia Super League match played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Sunday, August 30.
The valuable triumph over the hard fighting Blades restores Zesco’s seven point gap at the top of the log that was yesterday cut to five by rivals Power Dynamos with a win against Nkana FC.
Kenyan international defender and man of the match David “Calabar” Owino scored the important goal in the 51st minute. The former Gor Mahia man rose above the rest to head in Justin Zulu’s free kick from the left after Godfrey Chibanga fouled Mwape Mwelwa just outside the box.
Konkola should have leveled scores in the 78th minute but keeper Jacob Banda’s double save kept Zesco in the game as they fought tooth and anise to secure the three points.
