The 22 year old striker has notched 5 goals at the ongoing Africa Women’s Nations Cup in Cameroon as Nigeria attempt to defend their title.
Asisat Oshoala was at the center of the Super Falcons’ 6-0 demolition of Mali in the opening group game on Saturday 19, November 2016.
The Arsenal Ladies forward’s scoring pedigree was never in question, banging 4 goals past Mali goalkeeper Samake Goundo in superb fashion.
Oshoala was however, quick to play down her individual brilliance after the match and said it was about team effort.
“It’s not that I come into this competition to be the best player or best goalscorer. I am just here to make sure that I make my country proud and let the whole of Africa know that we are in this because our last outing was not the best at the All Africa Games but this is just our way of making a statement in Africa. We are still in the game and not out yet,” Oshoala said
Oshoala was at it again opening the scoring in the match with Ghana to send her tally to an amazing 5 goals in 2 matches making her the top scorer.
Her goal wasn’t enough to give Nigeria the 3 points as Ghana leveled matters through Elizabeth Addo from the penalty spot.
Despite the draw, the Super Falcons are well on course to win another title as they lead Group B with 4 points and have the task of finishing top when they play the Harambee Starlets of Kenya on Saturday, 26 November 2016 at the Stade Municipal de Limbe, in Limbe.
Statistics don’t lie. The Super Falcons are looking like clear favorites to lift the trophy and it is Oshoala’s sharpness in front of goal that might just lead Nigeria to another AWCON Title.
