Football players often get implicated of being kept apart from the natural world due to their level of wealth and status but that’s not always the case.
Like all sports – things can get passionate during a game and it’s no wonder a supporter verbally attack rival teams and players.
Having said that, these Ghanaian footballers deserve a big applause for their good deeds away from the playing field.
It isn’t difficult to be sarcastic about sportsmen who earn big salary but following them have used their riches and fame to help the less fortunate in society.
ASAMOAH GYAN:
Globally, he is known as one of the realest people in football, Asamoah Gyan is a huge driving force when it comes to social causes and charity.
In 2015, the NorthEast United hitman constructed a Water Housing Pump Project worth $50,000 for the people in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Same year, he donated $100,000 to the Black Queens of Ghana prior to the All African Games in Brazzaville, Congo.
Two years later, through his establishment put up a $200,000 fenced AstroTurf fitted with floodlight and spectator stand for his former school, Accra Academy.
Recently, he donated several health products to the Weija Gbawe constituency to help fight COVID-19.
JONATHAN MENSAH:
Despite travelling all over the world, Jonathan Mensah has also found time to set up a foundation.
JOMENS FOUNDATION – which was launched some years ago is aimed at providing logistical support, donations and funding to under-priveleged institutions.
In 2013, the ex-Freestate Stars defender through his foundation presented assorted items and cash to the Royal Seed Orphanage Home along the Kasoa-Bogwease Road.
Last month (March), he together with two of his mates made some cash donation to a local NGO to help combat the fight against the global epidemic, COVID-19.
MAJEED WARRIS:
The Strasbourg striker gets a lot of plaudits for his exploits on the field but not his charitable works.
In 2018, Warris through his foundation, THE MAJEED WARRIS FOUNDATION is aimed at educating young people in the Northern part of the country (Ghana) through their love for football.
Two years ago, his foundation handed scholarship to two kids to go and study and learn the game of football abroad.
Few days ago, he donated some health products to the people of Lameshegu in the Northern Region.
STEPHEN APPIAH:
Stephen Appiah has long been regarded as one of the nicest guy in football, someone it’s simply impossible to dislike.
The ex-Ghana skipper has a foundation known as the STEPAPP FOUNDATION – Provides care, quality education, health facilities through sports to improve the overall well-being of underprivileged children in Ghana. Also, help them attain their full potential in life.
In 2010, he put up a community clinic and library for Chorkor.
CHRISTIAN ATSU:
Christian Atsu gets a lot of criticisms by fans of the Premier League but that ignore his kindness off the pitch.
The Newcastle United midfielder has been collaborating with Social Justice Activism Group – Crime Check foundation to paying up fines for some prison inmates who were jailed for petty crimes.
In 2017, the Ghanaian made some donations to the Becky’s foundation, an orphanage in Awutu Senya district of the Central Region.
Currently, he is building a school in the same region to cater for about 300 deprived children.
