By Dom Agbakpe,
Many young players grew up admiring Asamoah Gyan and Emmanuel Adebayor and Ropapa Mensah is no different.
The 22-year-old forward who joined USL Championship outfit Pittsburgh Roverhounds earlier this year has revealed that the ex-Sunderland man and ex-Arsenal striker are the players he idolised.
“I was looking up to Asamoah Gyan and Emmanuel Adebayor at the same time,” he told soka25east.com in an exclusive chat
When questioned why he chose these players, he opined, “Because i think as an attacker i’m supposed to look up to some player who play the same position as i do and they were the best when i watched them.”
Mensah began his footballing career with a colt team – Odomankomamba then he later joined a Second Division team named Cape Coast Strikers.
In 2016, he joined Inter Allies and logged thirty-six games, bagged six goals and registered five assists over three Ghana Premier League seasons.
He was loaned to USL Championship side, Penn FC in 2017 where he posted seven goals and two assists in nineteen appearances en route to the highest scoring season of his career.
In 2018, he joined Nashville SC intially on loan where racked up five goals in thirty games before he was purchased outrightly for the 2019 campaign.
Mensah was named to the Ghana U-23 National Team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. He did not record an appearance in the tournament.
