A close review of Ghana Premier league coaches in the upcoming season

All eyes will be Paul Tandoh in his quest to defend the Ghana Premier League after winning it in 2017 with Aduana Stars as assistant coach to the late Yusif Abubakr.

Kim Grant, Samuel Boadu, Maxwell Konadu, Ricardo Da Rocha are among the notable coaches expected to compete with Tandoh for the best coaches for the upcoming season.

The Ghana Premier League get back to full gear following the Anas Number 12 exposé in which the then GFA Boss Kwesi Nyantekyi and other top officials were seen in a video receiving cash to manipulate the outcome of matches.

Here’s the list of 18 technical brains that will be in the dugout of the Premier League clubs when the league commences this weekend.

Hearts of Oak – 

Kim Grant will be the man steering the affairs for Hearts of Oak in the upcoming season. The 48-year-old took over the Capital-based club in November 2018, succeeding interim coach, Seth Hoffman. He previously had stint with Ebusua Dwarfs and Elmina Sharks as Technical Director.

Asante Kotoko – 

Maxwell Konadu was reappointed as the club’s new coach few weeks ago following the sacking of Norwegian trainer – Kjetil Zachariassen, who performed abysmally in the CAF Competitions. The Black Stars B Team gaffer led the Porcupine Warriors to win the Ghana Premier League title in his first stint (2011-2012).

Liberty Professionals –

David Ocloo was named the Scientific Soccer lads coach few weeks ago. The 35-year-old came in for Reginald Asante, who is on a sabbatical leave in pursuit of a coaching course abroad. In the past, he worked with Wa All Stars (Ghana) and Maranatha FC (Togo).

Inter Allies –

Tony Lokko is the coach of Inter Allies. He replaced Paa Kwesi Fabin, who left his role after 78 days in charge on his second stint. Lokko has coached several teams in the past including Hearts of Lions, Amidaus Professionals and Tema Youth.

Ashanti Gold –


Ashanti Gold will go into the new season with another expatriate in Ricardo Da Rocha. The 57-year-old Brazilian tactician was appointed coach of the Miners late this year. He succeeded Norwegian, Kjetil Zachariassen. He previously worked with Ebusua Dwarfs.

Elmina Sharks –

Yaw Acheampong is the coach of the Elmina-based club. The 46-year-old former Black Star player has been at the club since 2017 and will be looking to led Sea Animals to finish in the top four this season.

Karela United FC –

Karela United FC will head into the new season with Prosper Nartey as their coach. The Cape Coast University lecturer was named the successor of Johnson Smith, who left his job to rejoin Asante Kotoko as an assistant coach. He handled Ebusua Dwarfs in the past (2016).

Dreams FC – 

Winfred Dormon will be the man in the Dreams FC’s hot seat this campaign. The former Proud United man was made substantive coach in June after Finnish, Joha Pasoja departed the club due to family reasons. He is a CAF License A holder.

Medeama FC –

Samuel Boadu will be in the dug out for Medeama SC this season. Boadu, 36 has been in charge of the Yellow and Mavres for a while and will be looking to win the Ghana Premier League title for the first time in the club’s history.

Eleven Wonders –

Eleven Wonders will march into the new campaign with Ignatius Osei Ofosu as their coach. Ofosu was hired the trainer of Sure Wonders after Enos Adepa stepped down due to misunderstanding with management.

He has experience on the local scene having previously worked as an assistant coach at Liberty Professionals. He holds a CAF license A certificate.

Great Olympics –

Prince Koffie will be in charge of Accra Great Olympics for the new season after Isaac Nii Armah mutually parted ways with the club citing personal reasons. The CAF License A holder joined the Dade Boys from Unistar Academy.

Wa All Stars:

Wa All Stars will walk into the new season with Goran Barjaktarevic as their coach. The Bosnian-German took over the role on Monday after John Painstil was relieved off his duties for failing to meet the Club Licensing Regulations. Barjaktarevic, 50 holds a UEFA Pro License certificate.

King Faisal FC:

Anthony Commey will be the man in the King Faisal’s dugout this new season. Commey has vast experience in the league having handled New Edubiase in the past.

Aduana Stars:

Paul Tandoh will take Aduana Stars into the new campaign as their coach. He worked as Physical trainer with Hearts of Oak in the past.
