Ivory Coast international defender Eric Baily has apologized for the 2015 Afcon champions Ivory Coast, failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.The Manchester United defense stalwart took to social media to pen an emotional apology to their loyal fans.
“Bad time for our national team I’m a part of. Our apologies for the bad performance of the team during our last games, for me the important was neither the game against Mali nor against Morocco, but rather our bad results in official games since the beginning of the year.”
The 23-year-old former Villareal star thanked the fans for supporting them in their world cup campaign despite their disappointing results.
“I thank the supporters who supported us during our games and suffered because of this last defeat at home. Thank you again for your support, respect and tranquillity during the final whistle, thank you very much. It’s up to us now to raise your head as quickly as possible to be stronger mentally and continue our profession, football. We are aware of the sadness of our supporters and of what we are doing right now, because of our elimination for the world.”
Belgian tactician Mark Wilmot failed to guide The Elephants to their 4th successive World cup having made their maiden World Cup appearance in 2006 in Germany and later at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and finally at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
