Match Day One: Ghana Premier League Preview
After 18 months of despair, chaos and confusion, the Ghana Premier League take centre stage this weekend, Sunday, Dec, 29, 2019 across all league centres at 3Pm.
A new FA Boss has been instituted. Mr. Kurt Simeone Okraku is now in charge of the FA, replacing Dr. Kofi Amoah-led Normalisation Committee – who finally brought their tenure to a close few weeks ago.
The new regime is working tirelessly to bring back the glory days and passion amongst soccer loving fans. It is why the #BringBackTheLove slogan is making rounds and seen amongst football fans and enthusiasts.
The Premier League teams have been increased to 18 from 16 following votes by the membership of Congress even though there were some rants.
Great Olympics and King Faisal FC were the two who benefited from this decision.
Match Day One promises to be intriguing and exciting. Aduana Stars will begin their 2019/2020 season and defence of their Premier League title with a Home tie against Inter Allies at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa.
Hearts of Oak will hope to bounce from the President Cup defeat by their sworn rivals Kotoko last weekend as they host Berekum Chelsea in what promises to be the standout fixture of the opening round at the Accra Sports Stadium while Bechem United rub shoulders with Yaw Acheamlong’s Elmina Sharks at the Nana Gyeabour Park in Bechem.
In other match-ups, Techiman-based Eleven Wonders will have to dig deep if they are to pick all three points against Asante Kotoko when play them at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi with Karela United doing battle with Sogakope West Africa Football Club (WAFA) at the dreaded Crosby Awuah Memorial Park at Aiyinase in the Western Region.
Elsewhere, Returnees, Great Olympics will make a long trek to Obuasi to face former champions Ashanti Gold at the Lenclay Stadium whereas Dreams FC shrug it out with King Faisal at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu in the Eastern Region.
Ebusua Dwarfs will look to get their campaign on a good note as they welcome Medeama SC to the Cape Coast Sports Stadium with Liberty Professionals going boot-to-boot with Wa All Stars at the Carl Reindorf Park in Dansoman.
