By Dom Agbakpe,
Hearts of Oak couldn’t close the gap with the top as they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Elmina Sharks on Sunday afternoon.
The Match Day 12 fixture of the ongoing 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League was staged at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Kofi Kordzi netted for the Phobians while Dennis Mensah scored for the Sea Animals.
Coach Edward Nii Odoom kept the same line up that beat Bechem United 3-2 at the same venue a fortnight ago. Defender, Benjamin Agyare was handed his second start on the bounce.
The homeside started brightly and had a lot of possession in the opening minutes but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock on 25 minute, courtesy Dennis Mensah’s ferocious volley.
On 38 minute, Hearts of Oak didn’t relent on their efforts in the pursuit for the equaliser and deservedly got it through their burly striker Kofi Kordzi.
It was a closely fought affair in the second half.
Emmanuel Nettey fired in a powerful shot outside the box but it went wide on 7th minutes.
Elmina Sharks were presented with a golden opportunity but Benjamin Arthur’s effort missed the target.
The final 10 minutes saw the Phobians piled pressure on Sharks in search for the winner but couldn’t get it as they left Home win just a point.
Elmina Sharks’ Edmund Osei and Benjamin Arthur were booked for different offenses in either half.
Hearts of Oak will still stay in Accra but this time as guest to Inter Allies while Elmina Shark return Home to face Liberty Professionals at the Nduom Sports Complex.
Match Day 13 fixtures will be played between March 6-9, 2020.
