As he scores against his former team……..

Could this be the season that could spur his career to new heights?

Mike Katiba left Mufulira Wanderers at the end of the 2016 season to join Green Buffaloes, a team that had been monitoring him for a while. Other Clubs too were rumoured to have been following Katiba, these include Red Arrows, Nkwazi and Nkana.

But Green Buffaloes seemingly were the aggressive amongst the suitors as they got the lad. And it would not be insanely conclusive if Buffaloes are already celebrating the acquisition as a good choice to land the midfielder at Independence stadium.

Mike has had a very good pre season scoring a total of 7 goals during the time. The pre season appears to be following to the new season. He got off the mark for Green Buffaloes in the first game and apparently against his fomer team.

He had a hand in the first goal that went in as an own goal, and added up a second goal for the Army side before Diamond Chikwewe rounded off a perfect afternoon via a 3nil score line.

His celebrations infuriated the mufulira Wanderers faithfuls who thought Mike, being their former player was not supposed to celebrate in that matter. Certainly there is no rule to stop a player from celebrating after scoring against his former paymasters. Its just unwritten rule that individual players choose to observe.

Bwezani asked Mike why he celebrated against his former team and this is what the player had to say.
“There are goals that are special and that was one of them but the celebration for me had nothing against the team but some fans who are always against players even when the players need thair support.
It was clear that fans got fed up with most senior players at Mighty Mufulira Wanderers. Especially when we were struggling and we needed the support of the fans” added Mike.

Asked if he is looking forward to scoring and celebrate at Shinde

“No no that was my home and enjoyed playing football there, even when I score I csmt celebrate at Shinde”, said Mike

Asked about how he his at feeling at Green Buffaloes, was in no mood to doubt of what enjoying.

“I think am at the right club, I have been scoring of late , as a player you can not argue with the coach if you have been given a position, here am a force number 10, am more attacking than defending and that’s my natural position so am enjoying myself”.

Green Buffaloes are away to Konkola Blades one of the teams that qualified from junior division. Blades were off in week one as their game was postponed owing to ZESCO United playing in the Confederation Cup in Nigeria.

Mike thinks GBFC will still have an advantage against Konkola Blades.
“I think we have the advantage going into that game, it will be their (Konkola Blades) first game and it will be more challenging for them than us. While I know that football is not played on paper we are optimistic that we can bag that one.”

Next five games for Green Buffaloes….

Konkola Blades away
Nakambala Leopards home
Nchanga Rangers away
Nkana Home
ZESCO away
