Legon Cities were beaten 3-1 by Asante Kotoko in the match Day Two of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night.
Legon cities FC began the game with purpose and some pressure.
Greece import Papadupoulus Panayotis net the opener when he tucks home a cross from Sadik Sulley to put Cities 1-0 ahead in the 10th minutes.
Asante Kotoko were awarded a freekick just outside the penalty area but Songne Yacouba couldn’t make the best out of it as he struck it straight into the wall.
Legon Cities almost made it two on 22 minutes but Saddick Sulley couldn’t turn in Jabila Karim’s powerful drive.
On 28th minutes, Asante Kotoko wanted a penalty for a handball in the Cities area but referee Clement Nkuah waved it away, much to the displeasure of the Kotoko faithfuls.
Asante Kotoko level matters through Augustine Okra who lobbed the ball beautifully over Fatau from Sogne Yacouba’s pass on 33rd minutes.
Asante Kotoko got off with some intensity and purpose and made it two six minutes into the second period.
Cities defender Isaac Painstil tried his luck from 20 yards but it was well dealth with Felix Annan.
Emmanuel Gyamfi intercepted Mohammed Suleiman pass and made it three for his side in the 60th minutes.
The visitors left the Homers off the hook as they wasted a lot of chances through Augustine Okra and Songne Yacouba. However, they kept their cool at the back to take Home a deserved victory from Accra.
Legon Cities FC next travel to the Theatre of Dreams to face Dreams FC while Asante Kotoko welcome Berekum Chelsea to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Match Day Three fixture is scheduled have been scheduled to come off January 10-13.
