Hearts of Oak were beaten 2-1 by Asante Kotoko in an injury-blighted tie at the Accra Sports Stadium in Match Day 6 of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Homersters began the game well in pursuit of the lead with Daniel Afriyie, Joseph Esso and Emmanuel Nettey wasting glorious opportunities.
Asante Kotoko got into strides and made attacking moves but yielded no result.
Justice Blay gave the visitor’s the lead when he connected Augustine Okrah’s cross on the 10th minutes.
Kotoko nearly made it to two through Naby Keita but his effort went wide.
Hearts of Oak wanted a penalty after Daniel Afriyie was floored in the Kotoko area but referee Emmanuel Eshun waved it away, much to the displeasure of the Hearts faithfuls.
The first period ended with Benjamin Afutu and Patrick Yeboah booked.
Hearts of Oak toiled in the second half and got the leveller through Joseph Esso on the 67th minute.
Maxwell Konadu’s men pushed on for the winner which eventually came via Naby Keita who expertly converted a penalty in stoppage time and snatch victory for his side.
This, win, however, takes Kotoko to 5th on the standings with 12 points.
Hearts of Oak next travel to Dawu to face Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams while Asante Kotoko return Home to host Liberty Professionals. Both ties scheduled between Jan 31and Feb 3.
