The Phobians overcome Abontoa Boys to record their first win of the season.
Hearts of Oak’s long wait for a win was ended in a positive style on Sunday afternoon as they posted a slim 2-1 win over Ebusua Dwarfs at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Match Day 3 of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League.
The host went into the game second-bottom but have moved out of the drop zone after romping to three points. The Phobians began proceedings with intent and purpose in the early minutes and had their first sight at goal through Ben Afutu, whose header rattled the post.
Ebusua Dwarfs made some attacks but were to no avail.
Joseph Esso gave Hearts of Oak deserved 1-0 lead with a neatly-taken freekick outside the box on 29th minute.
Five minutes later, Kojo Obeng Jnr nearly made it two for his side after brilliant work down the left but his effort came off the post. The first stanza of the game ended with referee Abdul Kadri issuing two yellow cards to the visitors.
Back from recess, Ismael Antwi came close to fetching an equalizer for his side but his close-range strike was saved by goalie Richard Attah. Kofi Kordzi doubled Hearts of Oak’s advantage with a stunning freekick on 56th minute.
Albert Hammond reduced the deficit for Dwarfs with a sweet finish 20 minutes from time. The goal, however, gave Robert Asibu’s men a lifeline as they pushed on for a leveler but the Phobians stood tall to snatch victory.
Next up for the Hearts of Oak is an away trip to West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) while Ebusua Dwarfs entertain Liberty Professionals at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in the Match Day 3 ties due to happen between Jan 14-16, 2020.
