Hearts of Oak settled for a pulsating goalless draw game with Ashanti Gold staged at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday night.
The Homers commenced the match in strong fashion to go ahead but the visitors deployed a better plan to stop all their attacks.
Gokyildiz Kasim’s men contained all the threats well enough, ending the first half goalless with midfielder Emmanuel Nettey going into referee Abdul Latif Adaari’s books.
After the break, Hearts of Oak nearly shot the lead through Daniel Afriyie but goalkeeper Frank Boateng made a wonderful save to deny the young forward.
Moment laters, Ashanti Gold created meaningful opportunities via Benedict Damlen and Appiah McCarthy but failed to break the deadlock.
In the dying embers, Edward Nii Odoom’s charges did all they could to snatch a winner but the Miners’ backline remained resolute.
It was a point gained for Ashanti Gold, who haven’t lost to the Phobians since 2014.
The draw take Hearts of Oak to 8th on the league standings with 11 points – Ashanti Gold who lie 4th get 14 points.
Match Day 9 sees Hearts of Oak make a long trip to Dormaa to tackle Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park with Ashanti Gold returning to Obuasi to lock horns with Liberty Professionals at the Lenclay Stadium. Ties scheduled for Feb 7-10.Attachments area
