By Dom Agbakpe,
Legon Cities and Great Olympics played to an exciting draw in a clash between sides sharing the Accra Sports Stadium as Home grounds in the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League.
The match ended 1-1 goals from Mohammed Yakubu and Sulley Ibrahim for either side entertaining the supporters.
It was the home side who got proceedings in strong fashion and were the better side but couldn’t make their early chances count. Mohammed Yakubu gave Cities a deserved 1-0 lead on 24 minutes with a lovely finish.
4 minutes later, Fatau Dauda denied Great Olympics a leveler when he palmed away Sulley Ibrahim’s 20 yards ferocious effort. The ex-Ashanti Gold goalie, this time, couldn’t stop Sulley Ibrahim’s close-range strike as he put the Wonder Club on level peggings on 39 minutes.
Defender, Yussif Fadili had his name written in Rustum Senorgbe’s books following a tackle.
Cities began the second stanza as they did in the first, had a penalty after the ball struck a player in the visitor’s’ area but the referee waved play on, much to the displeasure of Cities’ supporters. Tie full of opportunities.
With the game into its final stages, both sides became cautious but it’s the Royals who wanted it more threatened as the Wonder Club dragged the game to a 1-1 stalemate.
The result sees Legon Cities climb to 9th on 13 points while Great Olympics are 13th on 10 points.
Sulley Ibrahim’s performance earned him the Nasco Man-Of-The-Match award.
Goran Barjaktarevic’s charges will play guest to King Faisal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi while Seth Hoffman’s men welcome Berekum Chelsea to the Accra Sports Stadium.
Match Day 11 games are scheduled for Feb 18-20.
