By Dom Agbakpe,
It’s only a game into the new campaign and there already have huge shocks. The pressure is on in the Ghana Premier League which enters Match Day 2 this weekend with some fascinating ties.
Match Day 1 saw Hearts of Oak and Karela United FC losing 1-0 at Home to Berekum Chelsea and West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) respectively.
This weekend round of games will hope to provide a lot of action starting on Friday night when Legon Cities FC welcome Asante Kotoko to the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Royals drew 2-2 with Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindorf Park while the Porcupine Warriors beat Eleven Wonders 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last weekend.
Goran Barjaktarevice’s boys sit 10th with just a point whereas Maxwell Konadu’s boys lie 7th with 3 points.
After miserably losing 4-1 on the opening day against Aduana Stars, Inter Allies will hope to get their campaign back on track as they engage Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Bechem United were 2-0 winners over Elmina Sharks. The Eleven-Is-To-One lads are rocked-bottom with no point while the Hunters occupy the 5th spot with 3 points.
Sunday will see the bulk of the games being played across the country.
Berekum Chelsea will yearn to continue their fine start to the league when they entertain David Ocloo’s Liberty Professionals at the Golden City Park in Brong Ahafo Region.
The Biribes lie 6th with 3 points while the Science Soccer lads occupy the 9th position with just a point.
Fourth-placed Medeama SC will look to deepen the woes of Hearts of Oak when they face them at the Nana Gyeabour Park with Eleven Wonders rubbing shoulders with Dreams FC at the Nkoranza Children Park.
The former lost their opener 1-0 to Kotoko while the latter thumped King Faisal 4-1 at the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu. The Sure Wonders lads are logged on the 12th spot with no point whereas the Still Believe lads lie 2nd with 3 points.
King Faisal, on their return to the Premier League were humbled 4-1 by Dreams FC on the opening weekend. However, Anthony Commey’s Boys will look to get back to winning ways as they come up against Ashanti Gold in a regional derby at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi while West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) host Ebusua Dwarfs at the RedBull Arena in Sogakope.
The Academy Boys won 1-0 away at Karela United while Dwarfs lost 1-3 at Home to Medeama SC.
At the Accra Sports Stadium, Second-Bottom Great Olympics will take on Table-Toppers Aduana Stars, hoping to bring some smiles back on the faces of their supporters following last weekend’s disappointment with Karela United trekking to Elmina to play as guest to Sharks at the Nduom Sports Complex.
