Egypt overcame Ghana 2-0 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup (Caf) qualifier played at the Borg El Arab Stadium in the city of Alexandria on Sunday evening.
As a result the Pharaohs moved to the top of the Group E standings, while the Black Stars stay on position three on the table.
The visitors threatened first through Mubarak Wakaso whose powerful shot from a free-kick was parried away by Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary in the 19th minute.
Egypt winger Mahmoud Hassan dribbled past a few Ghana defenders in the 41st minute and he was fouled by Harrison Afful, and the home side were awarded a penalty.
Mohamed Salah made no mistake from the spot-kick as he beat Ghana keeper Razak Brimah with a low shot to had Egypt the lead two minutes before the half-time break.
The Black Stars did most of the attacking in the second-half, but they were struggling to beat Egypt’s legendary shot-stopper El Hadary, who was on top form on the night.
The former Al Ahly keeper produced brilliant saves to deny Christian Atsu and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu respectively with time running out for Ghana.
Egypt’s 2-0 victory over Ghana was sealed by Abdallah El Said who was teed up by AS Roma winger Salah and he made no mistake as he scored with a low shot.
